Part of the

Weekend Concert Series

Our weekend concert series showcases a culturally diverse mix of musical genres in a seated, listening room environment.

The Novel Jazz Septet will present an evening of music by jazz icons, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn at the Frontier Cafe on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 8pm. The band performs well-known standards, plus rare, vintage gems, recently unearthed from original scores at the Ellington collection at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and re-interpreted for you at Frontier. The musicians of this group have been playing straight-ahead jazz for audiences throughout Maine (and beyond) for several decades. Collectively, they share over two centuries of experience in the jazz idiom. The band has been focused on the enormously rich repertoire (~3000 compositions) of Duke Ellington and his musical collaborator Billy Strayhorn for years, with an annual concert series performed throughout the state. This unique jazz experience is augmented with stories about the history of each and every tune. This will be a special evening of jazz at Frontier. If you have never attended a Novel Jazz event, check them out see why their shows have been so popular for so long. Join NJS at the Frontier Cafe for the works of two of the most famous icons of jazz…Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. Novel Jazz keeps the legacy of Duke and Strays alive and swinging!
