Beginnings

Frontier was officially established in 2004, but our evolution began 20 years ago with the simple notion of connecting people to the world. Our vision was to create a special kind of meeting place reminiscent of a traveler's crossroads – where stories, ideas and culture interact in a rich and dynamic environment.

It is our belief that stories are the lifeblood of a people – they expose the essence of a culture and provide for a shared identity. Stories are shared at home, work, in town halls and in places of worship. They are shared in the markets, public squares and around the table. And they are shared in cafes and taverns, theatres and cinemas. In all cultures, stories are shared in the "meeting places". These places become the reference points for communities, and serve as vital conduits for the exchange of thoughts and ideas.

In 2004, we began transforming Mill 3 of Fort Andross to become one of these reference points.  After a protracted start-up phase wrought with blood, sweat and tears (literally & figuratively), and hinged on the core belief that if "we build it, they will come", Frontier opened it's doors in October 2006 and has since rooted itself in Maine as a unique destination where people can gather to enjoy and explore food, film, music and art inspired by the world.  We now want to offer more...But in order to do so we're reaching out to you, our community, for support.

Road Map Forward

We're pleased to announce a partnership with the Omprakash Foundation, a non-profit organization connecting volunteers, classrooms and communities*. The Omprakash Foundation is partnering with Frontier in support of our mission and to serve as our fiscal sponsor. This partnership will now enable our community to support our programming through tax-deductable donations.  Donations will go directly to supporting our arts, cultural and educational programs.

To make a tax deductible contribution to Frontier's art, cultural and educational programming simply click on the icon below and you'll be guided through a few easy steps to contribute directly to Frontier. Please note you will be directed to the Omprakash Foundation website to make this donation.

Meanwhile, Frontier has begun taking steps towards developing our own dedicated non-profit organization called Beyond.  This effort will enable Frontier to expand its arts, cultural and educational programming more independently, by applying for grants, broadening our partnering opportunities, accepting tax-deductable donations directly from our community and widening our base of organizational, corporate and individual support.  Until our 501(c)3 status becomes formalized, you may still contribute to our programs via our fiscal sponsor, see above.

In addition to our on-going regular programming we are currently developing a number of exciting projects we believe will continue to strengthen our mission. Click to see what's In Development .

*Omprakash is an educational community: We facilitate communication, collaboration, and mutual learning within a diverse international network of social actors. Our free database of global Partners can empower you to volunteer abroad, advocate at home, or enrich your school's academic curriculum and service-learning programs. We offer grants to help qualified applicants build lasting relationships with our outstanding Partners, and we enable these Partners to receive tax-deductible donations from their dedicated supporters.
