FAQs

What is Frontier?

Frontier is an experience. We are here to entertain, inspire, educate, feed, comfort and connect our community. We are part café, cinema, gallery, crossroads, pub, chat room, meeting place, round table, classroom and communication channel. Our mission is to connect you to the world, and to keep you connected.

What's happening at Frontier?

Frontier's programming is dynamic: film, live music, theatre, performance, speakers/lectures, book signings, fundraisers, receptions, parties, meetings, language classes, children's programs...we offer something for just about everyone. Check our Schedule for the most accurate and up-to-date information about events, show times and tickets. Please note that all "coming soon" dates/times are subject to change without notice, so please check our schedule regularly.

How do I navigate the Frontier experience?

Frontier is different. Not odd, just slightly unpredictable. We can guarantee something is always going on, but you'll need to check in regularly to know exactly what's on the schedule. Here are a few navigational tools:

  • Stop ~ ...well at least Slow down. Our "Slow Food" – World Market" inspired café focuses on fresh ingredients, world flavors and seasonal specialties. We encourage long lunches, meaningful conversation and breathing between bites. Enjoy it all in our café, in our cinema or in both.  Or if you'd prefer, order in advance and take it home to enjoy at your own table. See Menu and Catering
  • Look ~ Our cinema hosts an array of foreign, documentary, classic and first-run independent feature films. In addition we host film festivals, premieres, student shows and other special film screenings. While you're looking... check out our walls; they're art. See what they're saying.
  • Listen ~ Our cinema also hosts live music events. Our intimate 85 seat cinema makes for a wonderful listening room. Performances range from our locally inspired Songwriters in the Round series to national acts. Our café often has live music as well... a piano man, a fiddler, a drummer...
  • Collaborate ~ Frontier collaborates on many alternative events and series that often fall outside the box. Events such as Pecha Kucha, FODFest , Pedal for Peace, Opera in Cinema, Telluride Mountain Film Festival. We encourage you to submit your ideas and recommendations. See Event Booking
  • Learn ~ Frontier regularly hosts discussions by personalities from many worlds: arts, business, politics, academia, etc... In addition, Frontier is home to TEDxDirigo - a world-class platform to celebrate innovation and creativity in Maine.
  • Create ~ If you're interested in creating your own private event then we welcome you to explore our space and suite of services with the assistance of our Events Coordinator. Parties, anniversaries, rehearsal dinners, receptions, private film screenings, concerts, conferences, business meetings, fundraisers... If you can visualize it, we can make it happen. See Private Events
  • Beyond ~ When we set our vision "to connect you to the world" we meant that figuratively and literally. We make our space comfortable, but we also want to challenge our community to be better citizens. To this end, Frontier is always developing unique and relevant communication channels to connect people and places around the world. Stay tuned...

Can we rent Frontier for a private event?

Most certainly. One of the great coups of Frontier was making the best view in town available to the public. Frontier is an ideal and festive setting for private events such as birthday/holiday parties, rehearsal dinners, weddings, film screenings, concerts and other special occasions. Our space can also easily transform to meet the needs of business meetings, conferences, fundraisers and community events. See Private Events

Do you cater?

Yes. In addition to Frontier's seasonal café menu we've created an expanded catering menu to serve your next special event – whether as part of an event at Frontier or at your home/work. Frontier is committed to creating an experience that blends fresh local produce, world flavors and seasonal culinary traditions. See Catering
